Release liner notes: Think of a number. It begins as a longing, a whisper in the mind that tells you to participate in the architecture of something unseen. The artist provides the framework the rule, the constraint, the boundary within which creation becomes inevitable. What follows is not interpretation but execution, the faithful rendering of a concept made manifest through repetition and patience. Think of a number. Each strike is a unit of measurement, a discrete moment that accumulates into something larger than itself. There is only the certainty of the kick drum’s voice. Like lines drawn on a wall, each sound exists in relation to the others, forming a structure that can only be understood by experiencing its entirety. Think of a number. The process becomes the artwork.
The labor of completion is the
point the thousands of repetitions that transform a simple
command into an overwhelming presence. One could count them all,
theoretically, but the experience is not in the counting. It is
in surrendering to the system, the trust that the instructions
will lead somewhere meaningful.
Think of a number.
LeWitt spoke of ideas as machines that make art. This piece is
that machine, translated from visual to aural , from stationary
to durational. The grid becomes hypervelocity rhythm, the line
becomes pulse. The viewer becomes listener, standing inside the
structure, a ghostlike figure in the machinic kernel itself, no
longer an observer from without.
Think of a number.
