Christoph de Babalon: Grim Zenith EP
Christoph de Babalon: Grim Zenith EP

The brooding cycles of Christoph De Babalon's work have never readily leant themselves to the customs of genre and function. And the shadowy mechanics of his breakbeat turbulence altogether contradict the promise that rhythm's accents resolutely sustain. Rather than winding us in along its patterned coil, setting us down in a spiral motion with the bait-and-switch of a drop, his version of hardcore is pure fight-or-flight response. Its hardest edge is its sober presentation of distress in the familiar, the totalising anguish of perceiving a threat in everything you always welcomed. This is swing as recoil. Christoph De Babalon's discography reads like a program for decoding the physiological darkside to the inhuman speed-test that hardcore first found the keys for. Set against the aching bellow of an orchestral, and almost floral, sensibility for windswept duration and exacting drone-tactics, there's no sleep for the raver and no mantle for the chin-stroker. 'Grim Zenith' cuts a sharp figure in Christoph De Babalon's oeuvre. With a menacing propulsion, there's a certain pace across his new EP that keeps the cryptic, rapid-fire detail in a fractal constellation of fallout. High definition despair arcs through high-tensile ambient passages, and swarming synthetic platforms gather around the agitated strings that close each side of the record. Released in a numbered edition of 300 copies, this fifth record from V I S is a crucial dose from one of the most unrelenting practices to have been founded in the rarely shared vessel between experimental music and hardcore. That this nexus should elicit such a gothic poetics is singularly Christoph De Babalon's program. Text: Patrick Quick SECOND PRESSING. identical, but not numbered! Lower price!

Nomex: Paroxism EP
Nomex: Paroxism EP

PRE-SALE of Praxis 60 - Nomex: Paroxism EP.  Noise artist and film maker Paul Kidd aka Nomex was behind some iconic experimental releases of the 90s, mainly on his own Adverse label, exploring the physical nature of noise and vinyl, his preferred medium. Several of his records explored and articulated this interaction, such as Adverse 1 (A Moment in Eternity/Language of Dissatisfaction) - a needle playing the label, Desiring E.P.2 (Adverse 3) - a drill used as turntable - and Are You Anything More Than Just A Product of Your Influence? (Adverse 12) - dual parallel groove cut on 16rpm and 78rpm. Other works veer into sound collage and beat destruction, such as The Bruitist Shaper, and Trocante Gramofony E.P. He also experimented with extreme noise frequencies at live gigs, some of which were documented on a series of CDRs on Adverse in 1997 (all of these have now been uploaded to our YouTube channel).  Important to mention are also his collaborations with DJ Scud with the two classic 7"s Eurostar/Piling Machine and Total Destruction on the Maschinenbau label, both re-released by Praxis on one 12" in 2018. Ever since his 1999 release Trocante Gramofony EP (Praxis 33), there had been talk about doing a follow up and around 2010-2011 Nomex indeed worked on an album for Praxis, the material for which was finished, but not compiled at the time of his death in 2014. We compiled it as close as possible to what we think his intentions would have been and as to be expected it's a killer noise album! The Plan and the Pledge for the Vinyl The record will be pressed in a limited and numbered edition with a hand stamped label and sleeve as well as a 30x30cm cover graphic/poster inlay and postcard in an edition of 100-150 copies. Finer details of this may yet change/vary as we're figuring out the production cost and details. The image depicts the 30x30cm print insert. Details might slightly vary. A download code for digital tracks will be included. As you may remember we tried to get this project off the ground in 2024 but our fundraising efforts were not successful enough, and pre-sales were extremely poor. The record was pre-mastered but not pressed. We're now giving it another push. The digital album is released in June 2026 with the vinyl to follow soon after. IF THE VINYL IS NOT PRODUCED IN A PHYSICAL FORM BY THE END OF THE YEAR (2026) WE WILL REFUND THE PREORDERS AND ABANDON THE VINYL PROJECT. Help us to get this into production this summer by placing a pre-order or - even better - BECOME A SUPER-SUBSCRIBER! IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are already a SUPER-SUBSCRIBER you will receive one copy of this release as part of your subscription. It's not necessary to place an order, unless you want extra copies!
