Double vinyl album by C Mantle (sic) on Acre Recordings from 2021. We had several copies of this already, but they always sold so quickly in the shop that somehow it never got listed in the online shop - until now. C-Mantle from a different angle, a bit more IDM-Glitch-slower broken beats than the experimental speedcore/hardcore that he put out via outlets such as Cathartic Noize Experience or Underground Perversions. Limited to only 100 numbered copies!

60 minutes and 12 tracks dark dub / downbeat breaks / electronica. LFO DEMON released various records yet ranging from ragga orientated breakcore to dark technoid hardcore- this release is miles away from that style and shows his fondness for slow, dismal hiphop beats and dark, little melodies. He worked 2 years on this album before it got released in 2004 - and you definitely hear the effort that was put in this record. It is no short-lived music for one summer but some outstanding piece of artistic expression. This is also backed by 12 texts on the sleeve of the album. The order of the tracks follows a concept: there are short texts for each track on the flipside of the cover reflecting political and philosophic issues from wars in the 1990s to the role of fear as a "lubricating oil" in modern societies. All of them are described from different viewpoints that change from the scientist, the politician, the artist and the individual. The whole idea of this album is best to be described as contemplative: it is not pathetic but an individual reflection of some - mostly dark- parts of human existence. This approach is different from moaning by not remaining in a state of misery but staying in some proper distance through the eye of the critic. On the other hand it�s also not the approach to stay in a ivory tower but to engage and encourage others to get involved with something: but with active reflection and no blind acceptance of any agenda. So there are references to political debates like the one on the war against Afghanistan in 2001 or the one on "Empire" by Michael Hardt/ Antonio Negri. This is done without telling absolute truths but by putting any certainty into question. Also the music reflects those viewpoints: This album doesn�t follow the tradition of an existing genre but a multitude of various musical influences. There are samples of classical strings, of dub-orientated elements or technoid synthesizers to create a unique interpretation of those elements. The beat structure is based mostly on variations of hip hop beats: there are either oldskoolish breaks like in "Black Soul Bosnia", Kick+Snare patterns in "Heroin Sehnsucht" and technoid-dub beats like in "One night in Kabul". Thick atmospheres, melancholic melodies, deep beats.

Label info: MICK HARRIS (SCORN, QUOIT, PAINKILLER) returns after several years of hiatus with ten tracks of blasting landmine bass and interlocking shrapnel rhythms. I’ve been asked to write a press piece for the dark lord MICK HARRIS. Where does one even start? Especially for someone with decades of releases over various solo projects, collaborations and pseudonyms, whether it’s doing blast beats in the original NAPALM DEATH to crushing techno brutality as MONRELLA, or savage drum & bass as QUOIT. Then of course there’s the mighty SCORN and his numerous collaborations with fellow luminaries such as JOHN ZORN and BILL LASWELL (in PAINKILLER). Rather than being tied to genres or scenes, MICK HARRIS is one of those producers who creates a whole sonic world uniquely of his own, in which varying tracks, styles and tempos take form, but yet in which everything sounds unmistakably characteristic of the creator. Needless to say his work has influenced legions of producers like SURGEON, REGIS, ONTAL, VATICAN SHADOW / PRURIENT, FAUSTEN, SHAPEDNOISE et al, and pretty much anyone in the world of powerfully dark, abrasive music you could name-drop. And yet after all this time, it is impressive that HARRIS still stands way above his successors and has never been surpassed in his own production/performance game. After a hiatus of several years, he is back with a new album under the guise of FRET. Working at a faster tempo than his SCORN material, the FRET project first surfaced years ago on the DOWNWARDS label, rooting it firmly in the dark, industrial and technoid world, and appeared more recently on Tresor (Kern mix by OBJEKT), maintaining the characteristic colossal bass-heaviness and textural depth. And now a full album on KARLRECORDS, Berlin. HARRIS fans will be delighted to know that despite the 130 bpm tempo, the newest FRET still resolutely avoids any straight four-on-the-floor kickdrums; every track lurches, stumbles, staggers and charges forth with beats in beautifully broken asymmetry. We get 10 tracks of crushing, percussive destroyers, each itself a storm of precision chaos, with colossal low-end frequencies that’ll cause stampedes in the right circumstances. The classic HARRIS sound is there; searing waves of feedback distortion, intricate, interlocking rhythms and cold, abattoir atmospheres, especially track 6 “Stuck in the track at Salford Priors” which sounds like you’re being continuously suspended in the air from multiple explosions all around, each kickdrum throwing you up in the air, the next one going off before you can fall completely back to the ground. The lazy-minded would probably lump it in with the term “techno”, but the disciplined brutality, blasting landmine bass and interlocking shrapnel rhythms are clearly HARRIS’ own trademark style, sitting somewhere between SCORN and QUOIT. The tracks appear deceptively chaotic on the surface, yet each is meticulously and masterfully composed with great attention to layering and detail. M.E.S.H.: Hesaitix vinyl album on Pan from 2017, still sealedFurther departing from both the cinematic abstraction of ‘Piteous Gate’ and the hectic drums of ‘Damaged Merc’, Berlin producer M.E.S.H’s new full-length, ‘Hesaitix’, is marked by its hyper-ornamented rhythms and a sense of pensive, moonlit spaces. The atmosphere has shifted; the radical deconstruction of previous releases has given way to subtler interventions, building new structures in strange territories. Shifting from the meditative to states of manic unease, Hesaitix is an unnerving injection into both the social space of club music and the interior space of digital audio fantasy. How did I become so stupid? A sound can be both formless and over-rendered, like a boneless but fleshy hand from a life drawing class. What agent could set these broken sounds in motion? A laugh behind an evil curtain. A drummer that’s cool and grotesque, a detuned siren. A brushfire under a full moon. Recorded in Berlin and Umbria, Hesaitix sees Janus resident and PAN staple M.E.S.H. firmly engaged in a kind of sonic worldbuilding, a place where the unconscious and the alien intersect. Recorded in 1996 and released in 1999 as a double 10" on Praxis this shows Somatic Responses and Christoph Fringeli team up with some serious industrial broken beats and a 180BPM hardcore track. A couple of copies have shown up from deep in the label archives. Records are unfortunately a bit worn with some hairlines and surface marks, also sleeves a bit worn around the edges and lightly bent corners. Not sure what happened there. No serious damage (seam splits etc) though.
