Vinyl NM, sleeve has some wear, mostly on the back girard's intention on 'rayons' is to translate several kinds of rays into music - ranging from sunbeams to optical rays. so, 'rayons' can also be seen as an aural sight-seeing tour. the 'speed' factor is that of a person moving (whether by foot or in different vehicles). this movement was transformed into rhythmic patterns. imagine the aural equivalent of taking a walk during a thunderstorm ('éclairs') or feeling the sun peaking through a clouded sky while window shopping ('boulevard'). all sounds were generated with analog and digital synthesizers. the listener might believe that they are hearing modulated samples but this is not true. it is once again, an example of girard's virtuosity in creating 'naturalistic' soundscapes with pure electronic equipment. for the images on the album cover, girard gave the photographer, alain gauvin the basic audio tracks for inspiration. the final musical structure on 'rayons' is based on inspirations from gauvin's pictures which were taken in the montreal area.
Limited to 250 copies this is one of the coolest Vision releases - an experimental DJ tool 12" with tracks by all the MELX members. Most copies had a silk-screened sticker on the red cover, but this one does not, as it's one of the last copies (there were slightly more records than stickers made). opportunity!!

The Human being is disappearing buried under the roles and timing of production and consumption, sentenced to stand by the ultimate seriality and being unable to distinguish reality and fiction. In a world constantly accelerating towards no direction, men become a resource, basically meat for algorithms. Just like the simplest gear, any man can easily be replicated and replaced while being confined to the borders of a stream of information where reality is motionless. Considering the current human condition from the relevant perspective of Fire At Work matured from its extensive counter-culture militancy. Sound and noise are an extreme proof of human intention, electronic music is the common ground to face the mechanism even before the machine. This release tells about the post-industrial alienation without being a passive statement. The choice of the composition materials (piano, ghironda, urban soundscapes), as much as the organization, outline a well defined position, claiming the preminence of the human act, the choice and the imperfection to be opposed to the accuracy of automations, and the sterility of binary choices. It's an act of resistance to the mechanism itself, instead of the machine. The side A floats between a Piano intro and a cinematic tail of ghironda and Crumar, shaping the body itself of the ep: R/WS, a deep obsessive piece, framed between glitches, carries heavy downtempo rhythm and obscure timbres. Dark atmospheric industrial breaks with techno and speedcore elements. After perusing the silt underground of northern europe, Berlin’s Jon Baruc has returned for their first solo release in three years as Death Qualia. You may remember our shapeshifting friend from 2014’s Surface Tension LP by DEFCE – of which Baruc is 1/2. The Fanged Contradiction EP continues as a side plot to our rising comprehension of the anti-hero’s journey; this lore taking place in a timeless village threatened and paralysed by an all-terrain beast. Musically, this record pays homage to Baruc and Ohm Resistance’s shared origins of New York as a sort of year 3030 take on urban east coast space-gangster beats. The brimming 6-track vinyl ranges from vivid scenic ambient to Death Qualia’s personal brand of ultra-techno. This is a take-no-prisoners, kick-in-the-teeth contemporary take on Industrial music, loaded with all that anger and pent-up frustration, as well as the harrowing, yet exhilarating and utterly cleansing force of these frequencies in combination… There’s nothing contrived or over-polished here, but equally this is as concise and direct as it gets – a visceral focus of energy and creative force.

Swedish disruptors SHXCXCHCXSH return to Avian.Following on from 2018’s SHULULULU EP, the duo are back channeling their sound-design focused experimentalism into a brace of characteristically high energy recordings. Melding contemporary explorations in rhythm and texture with more traditional club tropes, Kongestion places recognizable leitmotif’s from the dance music continuum in the context of the pair’s inimitable production prowessA1 Kong and follow up Onge offer two takes on a similar template that marry a stepping kick drum pattern with dense, ever-shifting granules of processed white noise. The mentasm sample, that will become a recognizable device across the EP’s course, provides it’s own twisted energy – front and center on the former, and sunk – but no less effective, on the latter. With Nges SHXCXCHCXSH draw on their beatless material for inspiration, inviting a more musical sensibility into the work. What begins life as a staccato, monotonal recording develops slowly and organically into an emotive patchwork piece – drawing on the mentasm, but this time twisting it further and introducing a bassline and shuffling hats. Relentless rhythm track Gest follows – a dense, thorny construction that segues neatly into Esti, another more caustic composition that places it’s focus on intricate, delay-driven sound design with ghostly lead tones that operate just below the surface. As the record approaches it’s close, the duo showcase their range with Stio – a pulsing, meditative ambient cut. Final track Tion wraps up the EP neatly, acting as a fulcrum for the themes explored so far. Bending the mentasms into a hook, the artists create a wall of undulating sound, broken by sporadic kick drum hits and propelled forward with percussive strikes that run through the track before dissolving into soft reverb tails.

The turn of the millennium ushered in an apex visionary phase for English esoteric duo Coil. Relocating from the city to the coastal quiet of Weston-super-Mare freed them to follow even more fringe obsessions, fully untethered from peer influence. During a single six-month stretch in 2000 they released the devious underworld sequel to Music To Play In The Dark, arcane drone summit Queens Of The Circulating Library, and a malevolent hour-long synthesizer exorcism prophetically titled Constant Shallowness Leads To Evil. This latter work remains one of the group’s most miasmic and mind-expanding creations, on par with Time Machines – a sustained divination of shuddering, psychoactive noise, rippling with the motion sickness of an all-seeing eye. Thighpaulsandra characterizes the album as “an exercise in brutality,” born from a thorny patch of his Serge modular unit that Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson found entrancing. Processing this sliver of electronics into a ravaged labyrinth was a trial and error process, aided by Christopherson’s visual sense of sound, stretching and manipulating it for maximum spatial disorientating. Frequencies nauseously crawl across the stereo field, burrowing into the ear like a sinister brainwashing experiment. An outlier / centerpiece is the 13-minute alien tribalist sea shanty, “I Am The Green Child,” guided by John Balance’s sung-spoken free verse concerning vengeance, oblivion, and insanity, culminating in the memorable refrain, “We're swimming in a sea of occidental vomit.” But the rest of the record seethes in unhinged instrumental chaos, divided into 18 micro-movements of a composition called “Tunnel Of Goats.” Intended to scramble the functionality of a CD player’s shuffle mode, the piece throbs, thrashes, and flatlines in compressed frenzies of twisted synthesis, at the threshold of some bottomless purgatory, forbidding and unknown.
