Wien 2018 One copy back in stock!

The Human being is disappearing buried under the roles and timing of production and consumption, sentenced to stand by the ultimate seriality and being unable to distinguish reality and fiction. In a world constantly accelerating towards no direction, men become a resource, basically meat for algorithms. Just like the simplest gear, any man can easily be replicated and replaced while being confined to the borders of a stream of information where reality is motionless. Considering the current human condition from the relevant perspective of Fire At Work matured from its extensive counter-culture militancy. Sound and noise are an extreme proof of human intention, electronic music is the common ground to face the mechanism even before the machine. This release tells about the post-industrial alienation without being a passive statement. The choice of the composition materials (piano, ghironda, urban soundscapes), as much as the organization, outline a well defined position, claiming the preminence of the human act, the choice and the imperfection to be opposed to the accuracy of automations, and the sterility of binary choices. It's an act of resistance to the mechanism itself, instead of the machine. The side A floats between a Piano intro and a cinematic tail of ghironda and Crumar, shaping the body itself of the ep: R/WS, a deep obsessive piece, framed between glitches, carries heavy downtempo rhythm and obscure timbres. On the B side, RW/S gets reshaped by Dadub and Positive Centre, two remixes swinging between broken-techno and pure experimentation, a tribal decay that closes the ep recalling once again a condition that is primitive, ritualistic and restless. On The Edge Of Human Being by Fire At Work

Another spot on the map of the Weevil Neighbourhood: after our latest excursion into the intensely droney yet fragile and unstable musique concrete of Repetition/Distract's 'Old Weevil Neighbourhood' (Cat.No: PICNIC), we continue mapping the terrain with our eyes closed and our ears wide open. BLINDFOLD (Cat.No) comes as a mid-tempo two-tracker from an artist who wants to stay anonymous. A-side 'All Those Colours...' is a Dubtechno inspired piece that contrasts its laid-back soundscapes with a broken beat and hectic highhats that converge with large rooms of reverberation. '...We Cannot See', the counterpart on side B, contrasts static drumwork with shuffling breaks and early hardcore sounds with noisey drones that cold-warmly cover more or less the whole piece. /The first release in 2013 comes from Kyoto based artist Katsunori Sawa. Sawa is one half of japanese duo Steven Porter (the other half being Yuji Kondo), who made an appearance on the label in late 2011 with the "LR EP". "The Two Legs EP" continues pretty much where the duo's earlier outing left us sound wise. Sawa's very own take on the mid tempo spectrum results in four tracks that, regardless of their obvious focus on rhythmic repetition, appear either internally unstable and arduosly brought under control or both brutal and fragile at the same time. It is that tension between aggression and timidity, control and unrest that Sawa seems to contribute to the joint venture with Yuji Kondo and we're very happy to present the musical outcome of this solo project on "The Two Legs EP"./This is the 2017 repress on black vinyl! The Two Legs by Katsunori Sawa

Label info: Over the course of nearly a decade of releases, Szare have have been a mainstay of UK dance music, cementing their reputation through a string of essential releases for labels like Horizontal Ground, Idle Hands, Field, Project 13 and Different Circles. We’re extremely proud to add another name to that list, with this diverse selection of tracks that comprise both new ideas and forgotten loops, re-visited and re-tooled. The first track, Miner, is named after a street in Downtown Stockton, CA. Whilst Miner isn’t directly about the Central Valley of California, the juxtaposed rhythmic and thematic iterations that outline its structure reflect the uncanny incongruence of the environment that birthed it. From the opening bar, the rhythms are pounding, frenetic, and totally unhinged… We won’t give away the payoff though; listen to the tune. Cut with Glass - written after a recycling mishap - perfectly encapsulates a vintage side of the Szare sound - minimal, free from ornamentation, and with an approach to uk sound system culture that exhibits a more westward-gazing sound palette than initially meets the eye. Drop Shadow rounds off the package; as much an exploration of concrète as it is bass music, the drop to 100bpm facilitates one of the most controlled and perfectly executed arrangements we’ve ever heard out of Szare. The spasms of noise throughout are used as a fundamental instrument, complimented by pointillist licks of dubbed out vocals and strings that reach a fever-pitch in the closing third. POLITY001 by Szare
