Nomex: Paroxism EP

Produktinformationen "Nomex: Paroxism EP"

PRE-SALE of Praxis 60 - Nomex: Paroxism EP. important: special early bird price only till the end of June 2024!!

Noise artist and film maker Paul Kidd aka Nomex was behind some iconic experimental releases of the 90s, mainly on his own Adverse label, exploring the nature of physical nature of noise and vinyl, his preferred medium. Several of his records explored and articulated this interaction, such as Adverse 1 (A Moment in Eternity/Language of Dissatisfaction) - a needle playing the label, Desiring E.P.2 (Adverse 3) - a drill used as turntable, and Are You Anything More Than Just A Product of Your Influence? (Adverse 12) - dual parallel groove cut on 16rpm and 78rpm.

Other works veer into sound collage and beat destruction, such as The Bruitist Shaper, and Trocante Gramofony E.P.

He also experimented with extreme noise frequencies at live gigs, some of which were documented on a series of CDRs on Adverse in 1997 (all of these have now been uploaded to our YouTube channel).

Important to mention are also his collaborations with DJ Scud with the two classic 7"s Eurostar/Piling Machine and Total Destruction on the Maschinenbau label, both re-released by Praxis on one 12" in 2018.

Ever since his 1999 release Trocante Gramofony EP (Praxis 33), there had been talk about doing a follow up and around 2010-2011 Nomex indeed worked on an album for Praxis, the material for which was finished, but not compiled at the time of his death in 2014.

We compiled it as close as possible to what we think his intentions would have been and as to be expected it's a killer noise album!

The record will be pressed in a limited and numbered edition with a hand stamped label and sleeve as well as a 30x30cm cover graphic/poster inlay and postcard in an edition of 100-150 copies. Finer details of this may yet change/vary as we're figuring out the production cost and details. The image depicts the 30x30cm print insert. Details might slightly vary. A download code for digital tracks will be included.

We're looking at an August 1st 2024 release, more details will be posted as we move forward with this and other projects.

Available for pre-order now at a reduced price of 15 euro for a limited number of orders and only until the end of May 2024. RRP will be €20 once it's out. If you order the record now, it will help us to cover manufacturing costs and to bring the release into existence at the time for the projected release date at the beginning of August.

Scud & Nomex: Maschinenbau EP
LAST COPIES!! Scud & Nomex: Maschinenbau EP Maschinenbau was a label run by DJ Scud from Ambush and Nomex from Adverse which released only two 7”s in 1997/98. The first, Eurostar/Piling Machine, was limited to just 300 copies. It combined psychogeographical exploration and field recordings with Amiga-produced non-conformist breakcore and noise-abuse, while the second one, Total Destruction, became a classic of breakcore / noise crossover with several appearances on compilations such as Collision Course on PIAS (compiled by Kevin Martin, aka The Bug), but nevertheless fell into relative obscurity - like most of the great early breakcore - during the following decade.Twenty years after the original 7”s, Praxis is proudly releasing a 12” with all four original tracks at the end of September 2018 with the catalogue number Praxis 56. <iframe style="border: 0; width: 480px; height: 600px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=496939698/size=large/bgcol=333333/linkcol=e32c14/tracklist=false/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="http://praxisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/maschinenbau-ep-praxis-56">Maschinenbau EP (Praxis 56) by Scud &amp; Nomex</a></iframe>

Nomex: Trocante Gramofony E.P.

(Praxis 33) by Nomex</a></iframe>   Originally released in 1999 in an edition of 500 copies on transparent white vinyl as Praxis 33, Trocante Gramofony E.P. by Nomex is re-pressed in a limited edition of 100 copies on black vinyl from the original plates.   Trocante Gramofony opens with the monumental ‘Fire Is The Centre’, followed by two other Nomex masterpieces, ‘Life Destroy’ and ‘No-Step 2000’, as well as three speaker-destroying fragments and locked grooves.   It was a departure from Nomex’s releases on his own Adverse label and was naturally quite different from the DJ Scud collaborations on Maschinenbau. In relation to his other solo work, Trocante Gramofony is perhaps less conceptual and more composed.   ‘Fire Is The Centre’ features vocal snippets recorded at a Dead By Dawn party sometime between 1994-1996. Some of these snippets had been used on the Dead By Dawn record by Shitness & The Jackal, but here they were embedded in a surging wall of noise spread over the first side of the record, complete with crackles, shrieks and ever mounting intensity.   The second side opens with ‘Life Destroy’ an intense collage of voice, noise and music and ends with ‘No-Step 2000’.   Tracks don’t end in orderly fashion, instead the needle jumps out of the groove or is locked in a loop. The flow gets interrupted in the middle of the side of the record. These elements are again vinyl specific and can’t easily be transported to the digital realm, and this is one reason we decided to make this brilliant record available again in its ideal format, the vinyl 12”.
